The first week of a new year always feels the weirdest to me.

Full of awkward references to "last year, or really last week" and following up on everything with a "first of 2018!" cheer. Oddly (or rather naturally), that all goes away swiftly in a week, and we finish adjusting to the new year with the first week of work. Also known as sigh, back to real life.

But I digress from the main point of this post. This outfit is a real cry for help from this frigid weather. I've never been a fan of the cold, although you would think I'm used to it by now, having lived in Toronto for most of my life. Even the complex of layering possibilities can't change my sentiment towards Canadian winters. This winter has just felt especially brutal. Some wishful thinking here for sure, but this outfit is what I would wear come spring.

As always, disregarding the chill factor, I am putting comfort first. I've slowly purged my shoe collection of heels, especially stiletto heels and anything over 3 inches.

When I want the utmost comfort though, I always fall back to sneakers because I know even a 2 inch heel height will hurt me after several hours of walking (soft, I know).

My go-to sneaker brand to complement comfort with style for the past year has been Cole Haan. As a testament of my trust in them, including this pair I now own three pairs of sneakers by them. Like many of Cole Haan's other sneakers, the newest 2.ZEROGRAND Stitchlite Oxford is minimal yet on trend. Swap them for a pair of heels and this look is office ready. At the same time, these trousers can be easily exchanged for a cool pair of denim. Now I just need to ask my streetwear friends how to maintain this pristine shade...

Yep, spring can't come soon enough.
