In the Mood for Vintage
Lately I’ve been inspired by all things French and a time from before.
Perhaps I’m a bit late on this Parisian / French fascination, but it’s definitely happening now. For this outfit I drew on an inspiration of warm tones in browns and beiges, and a mood of old age simplicity that I just can’t get enough of.
If you’ve been around Instagram lately, you can probably tell brown is very “in” right now. Is that a weird thing to say? Brown, at least in its traditional sense, just doesn’t exude the same connotations of “sexy” or “mysterious” as say, black. Somehow though, that’s exactly what it implies for me right now, along with warmth, vintage, and an untold past. If you’ve followed along from my previous ramblings, you’ll know that this summer I was amassing a collection of reds and oranges (technically all just different shades of brown). Well, it’s safe to say that this obsession has continued into the autumn - and probably will persist. For me, these warmer tones have achieved classic and timeless status.
As soon as I unboxed this handbag, I knew it was the perfect addition to fuel my recent vintage obsession. Inspired by an old binocular case, the Alex handbag from British brand Beara Beara is such a unique addition to my closet. I’ve been trying my best to support sustainable fashion labels, to purchase less fast fashion from retailers like Zara wherever possible, and each Beara Beara handbag is handmade by crafters in Bolivia who take pride in the quality and result of their work. They’re also extremely transparent about their process, from creation to manufacturing and completion. Just like the undying classicism of French style and the continuous resurgence of vintage styles, these handbags will stand the test of trends. Plus, I can tell the leather will only look better as it ages.
Standing outside a crowded cafe, I couldn’t think of anywhere better to style today’s shoot. The only thing that’s missing is an outdoor patio and a magazine in my hands. Unfortunately, it’s way too cold for that in Toronto now, all the cafes have placed their patio furniture back into storage for the next 6(!) months.
As an added bonus, this Friday Beara Beara is offering 20% off all original price orders made on their website from November 24 to November 27, just enter the code ‘black20’ at checkout!
